Ixtapan de la Sal & Taxco

Ixtapan is south of Mexico City. How out of character for me to go to a spa. But, once I accepted that I was there to be a princess , I did just fine. It was so much fun and all 6 of us think we will do it again. What a great way to relax and still be active. I'll let the pictures tell you most of the story. I probably took 250 pictures, so you are only getting a few pictures here.

The photo above is of one of the pools. Our room was on the sixth floor in the building behind the pool.

Here is a quick look at some of the spa treatments that we had. Our package included 5 massages, 2 facials and reflexology, 1 loofah and mud treatment, two hair treatments and 1 styling. I traded a hair treatment for a foot parafin. That was nice. Then we had a manicure and pedicure. Trying to fit all that in with golf lessons, morning walks, aquatics, salsa and zumba aerobics, pilates and yoga was not very easy. I came to realize early on that you can't do everything. But, some of us tried. It was a lot of fun.

Here is a very small sample of the mosaics that they had. I have never seen so many mosaics in one place. Linda, Cris and I got lots of great ideas for our next summer mosaic project. I'm sure ours won't be so detailed.

Here are pictures of the pool aerobics, golf and hot tub. The weather was almost perfect. We had light rain two days, but for the most part it was in the 70's during the day. We were at 5600 ft and it is still that warm during the winter.

Nice form?
Cris, Linda and I took our golf lessons together. Linda and I met in our Lamaze class and all three of us were part of a mother's group that started almost 30 years ago when our oldest babies were born. I think we have bonded.

Spa Food was amazing. Here is just a small sampling of what we ate. My favorite were the hot pan dulce that was served with breakfast each morning. The only reason I didn't gain weight was because of lots of walks and aerobics

TAXCO Field Trip
Taxco is about an hour from the spa. It is a famous silver town in Mexico. They have wonderful jewelry stores. You can buy both high end and silver plated items in town. We all managed to pick up some pretty nice things in Taxco. The town seemed very European to me. It had a town square that was full of people and very busy. Taxco is my favorite town that i have been to in Mexico. Because of the silver industry, it has what appeared to be a good economy.

This picture was taken on the outside of town.

The spa packed us a lunch and we ate it in the town square.

The streets are narrow with no real sidewalks.

This was the day before the start of lent. They were getting ready for mardi gras. They were setting up for fireworks for that evening.

Linda is hold the baby of the store owner. Our driver knew the store owner and handed the baby to Linda. She seemed very tired and wasn't sure about Linda. I tried singing the wheel on the bus, but she had no idea what I was singing. But, she was very sweet.

Next stop after the baby in the jewelry store was the liquor store where Linda bought Tommy a big bottle of Tequila.

The town of Ixtapan de la Sal

This was a store that made fresh corn tortillas. It took me back to the days when I worked at El Indio in high school. Linda and I wanted to buy just two tortilla. They just gave them to us. Most people get two dozen or more.

I'm standing right outside of the church and behind me is the Sunday market place where you can buys almost anything. Shoes, Tableclothes, vegetables, valentines, chalupas ...... This was my first day out of the spa and I just loved going to town. I could have stayed there most of the day.

Morning Walks

You never know what you will see on a morning walk!
